Tendonitis Care

Tendonitis of the upper extremity can occur in the shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand.

Anti-inflammatory medication is frequency prescribed. Other things that you can do at home can also be helpful. These treatments have been called: The RICE program.

1. Rest- try to avoid repetive activity.Avoid the things that aggravate your condition. Braces can be helpful.

2. Ice- frequent ice application can reduce inflammation, the common root of all tendonitis. Ice is applied for 20 minutes several times per day.
Do not place ice directly on the skin. Clothing or thin towels are good shields.

3. Compression- wrap the area with a compression bandage. Not so tight-as to cut circulation.

4. Elevation- keep the inflamed part above heart level as much as possible.
